Additional Dwelling Units

Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs) are secondary, self-contained living spaces on a property that already has a primary residence. ADUs are often referred to as "granny flats", "in-law suites", or "secondary units." They can be attached to the main dwelling on the property, such as an addition or basement apartment, or detached, like a tiny home or detached garage conversion.

Chatham-Kent currently has grants available up to $25,000 for the creation of a new ADU! It is important to contact the Planning Services department to discuss eligibility at ckplanning@chatham-kent.ca before any work takes place.
