Wheatley Library Hours Extended, Work Continues on Relief Well

In response to public requests, library services in Wheatley are being extended into the evening, effective this week.

The temporary library service at 108 Talbot Trail will now be open each Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in addition to its regular hours of Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m., Wednesday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Chief Librarian Tania Sharpe said it is the goal of the library to be as responsive as possible to community needs.  “Anything we can do to help the community take another step forward is positive,” she said.

In operational news, it is expected that the installation of a conductor pipe at the APEC 1 site in Wheatley should be completed by the end of the work.

The process involves hammering the pipe into the ground to a depth of approximately 100 feet. The pipe is currently one-third of the desired depth.

Installation of the conductor pipe is the first step toward completing a redundant pressure relief well in the municipal parking lot near the APEC 1 site.

When the next phase of the work resumes, an odour of gas may be detected. If residents at any time detect the smell of gas, they are asked to immediately call 9-1-1.
