The Thames Art Gallery is pleased to announce the award winners for six different awards that are offered in conjunction with the Here I Am Student Exhibition. This exhibit is on display from June 14 – August 11, 2024. Over 70 students from four high schools in Chatham Kent participated in this exhibit, with over 100 artworks on display.
On Friday June 21st during the opening reception and award ceremony for Here I Am Student Exhibition, six young CK artists received awards acknowledging their creative achievements. There were three People’s Choice Awards, two Awards of Excellence and one Graduating Scholarship for a student intending on studying arts in post-secondary school.
The first People’s Choice Award, donated by Clair Culliford, a Gallery Advisory Committee Member, and was awarded to Halle DeJonge who is in grade 10 attending Chatham Kent Secondary School.
The second People’s Choice Award, donated by Michael M. Garland, Chair of the Gallery Advisory Committee, was awarded to Makenna Mifflin who is in grade 10 attending John McGregor Secondary School.
The third People’s Choice Award, donated by Vicki McFarland, Secretary of the Gallery Advisory Committee, was awarded to Lucy Thrift who is in grade 12 attending Chatham Kent Secondary School.
Both Awards of Excellence were donated by Vicki McFarland, with the first being awarded to Laila Stewart, who is in grade 12 attending John McGregor Secondary School. The second award of Excellence was awarded to Scarlett Koole who is in grade 11 and is currently attending Chatham Kent Secondary School.
Quinn Stoner, who is graduating from Ursuline College Chatham was awarded the one-thousand-dollar scholarship award. She will be attending the University of Windsor to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts. This scholarship was donated by Cathy Van Raay-Myers.
The Gallery would like to extend a warm congratulations to the 6 award winners, and to the 70 students who’s work in on display in the exhibit, the caliber of art is impressive.

Thames Art Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and Thursday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
