On December 19, 2024, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent was notified that the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks is amending the Rondeau Provincial Park Management Plan, adding an additional 14-year extension for existing cottage lot occupations in Rondeau Provincial Park.
This amendment will allow private cottagers to extend their existing leases/licences, enabling them to continue occupying existing cottage lots until December 31, 2038.
The ministry considered input received from the public, stakeholders, and Indigenous communities before making its decision about the amendment.
Continuation of cottage lot leasing in Rondeau Provincial Park to 2038 aligns with the regulation (Ontario Regulation 347/07) under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006.
