Public Comment Wanted for Tilbury Dog Off-Leash Recreation Area

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is inviting public comment on a proposal received from a local volunteer group to create a Dog Off-Leash Recreation Area ("DOLRA") in the community of Tilbury.

Members of the public can submit their comments at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca/tilbury-dog-off-leash-recreation-area . This consultation period is open until 4:30pm on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.

A DOLRA is a fenced area where residents have the opportunity to exercise dogs off-leash within a controlled environment without being in contravention of municipal by-laws.

The Tilbury DOLRA is proposed to be located at Kirkham Park, on Lyon Avenue, on the site of the former ball diamond.

All comments received will be included in a future report to Municipal Council considering the DOLRA designation.

Chatham-Kent has two designated DOLRAs: Happy Tails Off-Leash Dog Park in Wallaceburg and John Waddell Dog Park in Chatham. A third park, located in Dresden, has been approved but construction has not yet commenced.
