On Monday, April 8, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent unveiled the new ‘Mobile Mural’ bus that will soon be debuting on the streets of Chatham-Kent.
The bus features nearly 30 different references to life in Chatham-Kent, from historical figures to important landmarks, unique locations to fun activities. Some of the notable images include a portrait of Rev. Josiah Henson by local artist Mariah Alexander, an image of Mary Ann Shadd, as seen on the new Canada Post stamp, and a rendering of the Tecumseh Parkway statue. Other notable images are classic cars, crows, barn quilts, farmer’s fields, and even a reference to the famous Chatham-Kent invention Hawaiian Pizza.
“This bus was designed as a moving piece of art, literally and figuratively. It’s a tribute to some of the many things that make life in Chatham-Kent so great,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff. “We wanted to encapsulate something from every Ward, things from Chatham-Kent’s past, present and future. We want people to see this bus out and about and be reminded of how awesome it is live in CK.”
The bus was designed in-house and was fully sponsored and wrapped by local business Impact Graphics, at no cost to taxpayers.
