Emergency Storm Operations Continue in Chatham-Kent

Although emergency snow-clearing efforts continue, several roads in the municipality remain closed and many of those not closed are treacherous.

The municipality has 35 snowplows operating at present. Officials estimate there are hundreds of stranded cars throughout the municipality.

Police and EMS are attending to calls on a priority basis in terms of risk to life.

Residents are advised to remain at home since crews are busy with existing incidents.

A state of emergency was declared earlier today and the municipality remains under a Significant Snow Event status.

Due to weather conditions yesterday and today, the municipality has placed a 72-hour ban on the parking of vehicles on municipal streets and roads.  The ban starts at 2:00 pm today, December 24, and will continue until 2:00 pm on Tuesday. December 27, 2022.

The ban allows more efficient clearing of roads to enable emergency vehicles to have access where needed.
