The Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership (CK LIP) is proud to announce the fourth annual Chatham-Kent Welcome Week, taking place from September 13 to 21, 2024.
This week-long celebration recognizes the valuable contributions of immigrants and newcomers to the community, fostering a sense of belonging for all Chatham-Kent residents. It further reinforces Chatham-Kent's designation as Canada’s First Welcoming Community.
"Chatham-Kent is excited to celebrate our community's cultural diversity and inclusivity through the events of Welcome Week," stated Peter Sulman, CK LIP Coordinator. "We anticipate highlighting the valuable contributions of immigrants and newcomers to Chatham-Kent."
The festivities begin with a flag-raising ceremony at the Civic Centre on Friday, September 13, at 12:30 pm. The Chatham Capitol Theatre will host a Local Citizenship Ceremony on Tuesday, September 17, at 1:00 pm.
Additional events throughout the week include:
- Understanding Municipal Government: An information session tailored for newcomers in Chatham-Kent, held in Council Chambers at the Civic Centre on Thursday, September 19, at 6:00 pm.
- CK Welcomes: A Community Showcase: A vibrant event celebrating diversity and community spirit at Kingston Park (91 Paxton Drive, Chatham) on Saturday, September 21, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

About C-K LIP:
The Chatham-Kent Local Immigration Partnership (CK LIP) brings together community stakeholders to develop and support the implementation of local settlement strategies. Members of the CK LIP form a Partnership Council, which provides a collaborative framework towards the development of coordinated, comprehensive and strategic approaches to immigration and integration that fits the needs of Chatham-Kent's recent immigrants, employers, and service providers. The Partnership Council also looks at ways that community stakeholders can stay connected on newcomer issues on an ongoing basis during and after the implementation of the strategy.
