The Chatham-Kent Museum is proud to present A Call for Justice: Fighting for Japanese Redress (1977-1988) from the Nikkei National Museum. This exhibition tells a story of human rights and the enduring perseverance of the Japanese Canadian community who suffered so much from 1942-1949. A Call for Justice was created to honour the anniversary of the signing of the Redress Agreement with the Government of Canada in 1988, after the emotional struggle to achieve an apology and acknowledgement for unjust treatment. This exhibition examines the ten-year fight using historic photographs, artifacts, poetry, personal statements, art, and video.
A Call for Justice will run from January 28 – April 30, 2023. An opening reception will be held on February 10, 2023, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in conjunction with Thames Art Gallery’s ARTcrawl. The Chatham-Kent Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday 11:00 am – 4:00 pm with extended hours to 7:00 pm on Thursdays. Admission is by donation.
