The jury is in!
The Thames Art Gallery is excited to announce the opening of the 2023 edition of this much-anticipated biennial exhibition. Every two years, TAG invites emerging and mid-career artists from Chatham-Kent and across the province to submit their best new work for this competition.
The response was overwhelming. Guest juror Carla Garnet had her hands full, with over 80 artists participating and 213 works submitted for consideration. When the dust settled, she narrowed the field to 21 artists and chose 35 pieces for inclusion in this exhibition. According to Garnet, “as the juror for this group show, I was drawn to pieces that conveyed a connection to nature or family, or both.”
Garnet is the Director/Curator of the John B. Aird Gallery in Toronto and a dedicated advocate for emerging artists. The Thames Art Gallery appreciates her careful attention to the selection process and heartfelt congratulations to all the artists who submitted their work.
Garnet will attend the opening to congratulate all the artists involved and to present her Jurors’ Choice awards. Always a memorable event; plan to attend and congratulate all our artists.
The 2023 Ontario Juried Exhibition will open on Friday, August 25, at 7:00 pm with a reception and award presentation. The exhibition runs from August 25 to October 22, 2023. The gallery is fully accessible, and admission is free, but donations are welcome.
TAG is located at 75 William Street North, Chatham. Hours are Wednesday to Sunday 11:00 am – 4:00 pm, with extended hours on Thursdays 11:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Everyone is welcome to this free, family-friendly event, so take this opportunity to support your local art scene and experience the vibrant artistic community of Chatham-Kent.
