Hoopla Updates

You may have noticed that Hoopla has been very popular recently! CKPL will be making some adjustments in our Hoopla app to provide a more sustainable and fair borrowing experience for all library patrons.

  • Increased investment- more funds being allocated to Hoopla to meet growing demand.
  • No Request Feature in-app- you will still have access to both Instant and Flex titles. However, the request feature will no longer be available. If you would like to suggest a title to be purchased digitally, please use CKPL’s Purchase Suggestion Form.
  • Adjusted borrowing limits- monthly borrowing limit changing from 10 titles per month to 8. Don’t worry, Bonus Borrows do not count towards this limit! CKPL also offers above average borrowing limits compared to many other Ontario libraries that offer Hoopla.
  • Digital Magazines on Libby- BingePasses will still be available with the exception of digital magazines. CKPL has an extensive collection of instant-borrow magazines through Libby.

NextReads Newsletters

NextReads Newsletters are genre and subject-based reading lists emailed directly to your inbox. Each title is linked to the library catalogue so you can access more information and place a hold easily.

CKPL offers twenty-three different newsletters so there is something for everyone! Sign up for them all or choose what piques your interest. Newsletters topics include Must-Read Books, Coming Soon, Kids and Tweens, Teen Scene, Fantasy and Science Fiction, Picture Books, Romance, and so many more.

OverDrive App Retirement 

Still using the OverDrive app? Switch to Libby! The legacy OverDrive app be retired at the end of April and our digital library will best be enjoyed with Libby. Libby offers the same collection of digital titles from our library, but with new features we know you'll love. 

Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines to read on your phone or tablet using the Libby app by OverDrive. It's free and easy to get started for new users and a streamlined experience for current OverDrive app users. Learn more at overdrive.com/apps/libby/.

Digital Magazine Update

CKPL's access to Flipster has ended. CKPL card members can continue to access thousands of great digital magazines though Libby, PressReader and hoopla digital. Have questions? Ask CKPL staff members are happy to help get you started.
